Why This Exists

I built this because I almost fell for it.

A message from what appeared to be my bank. Professional layout, correct logo, urgent language about a security breach. The link looked almost right — one character off in the domain. I noticed because I happened to be paying close attention that day. Most days, I am not.

That message was AI-generated. I know this because the phishing kit was later traced to a service that charges twelve dollars a month and uses a language model to personalise fraud at scale. Twelve dollars. That is what it costs now to deceive someone who is not paying attention.

We have spent thirty years building the internet, and we handed it over — not to hackers in dark rooms, but to language models that have made deception frictionless, convincing, and cheap. The sophisticated frauds used to require expertise: the investment scheme that cites real regulations, the medical advice that sounds clinical, the lease clause buried in otherwise normal language. Now they require a prompt.

The people most at risk are not the naive. They are the busy. The trusting. People who, like me, are simply not paying close attention on a particular Tuesday afternoon.

And it is not only fraud. It is the professional who stakes her license on AI-generated research that contains a hallucinated citation. The developer who ships AI-written authentication code with a vulnerability on line 34. The patient who follows an AI health assistant's dosage advice that no doctor ever reviewed.

Darkness takes many forms. What they share is the same thing: information asymmetry. Someone or something knows more than you do, and that gap is being exploited.

In Bhutan, Nyilo (ཉི་ལོག) is the Winter Solstice. It translates literally to “The Return of the Sun.” It marks the exact moment darkness stops winning — when the days begin, slowly, to lengthen again. Not a sudden rescue. A turning point. The quiet beginning of more light.

That is what this is.

Not a security product. Not a compliance tool. Not another subscription trying to solve a problem it helped create. A small piece of light for anyone who needs to see clearly before they act. Before they click. Before they sign. Before they take the advice.

We started with the simplest possible thing: paste what you received, get the truth back. No account. No data kept. No complexity. Just: see.

The goal is larger. We want to be the layer of clarity between a person and whatever AI-generated darkness is aimed at them — whether that is a phishing email, a predatory contract, dangerous medical advice, or a fraudulent course promising to change their life for two thousand dollars.

For professionals, it is the audit trail that proves due diligence. For the solo developer, it is the security review that catches what enthusiasm misses. For the person who just received a worrying message — it is the friend who reads it with them and says: here is what I see.

The system that created these problems will not fix them. The incentives do not align. So we are building the alternative, quietly, one honest scan at a time.
